sustainable economy for the future

Circular Economy programme

The government is working with industry, civil-society organisations, knowledge institutions and other authorities to achieve a sustainable economy for the future. In this circular economy, there will be no more waste, as resources will be reused again and again. The government-wide Circular Economy programme sets out what we will need to do to achieve a circular Zambian economy by 2050. And In a circular economy we treat our environment responsibly. For example, by preventing litter on streets or in the natural environment.

Need for a circular economy

The global population continues to grow rapidly, increasing demand for raw materials, while supplies are decreasing. The government is therefore working with industry, decentralized authorities and civil society to ensure that by 2050 the Zambian economy will run entirely on reusable materials. In this circular economy, there will be no more waste, as resources will be reused again and again.

functioning circular economy

A properly functioning circular economy does not only depend on the government and industry. Consumers, too, have a role to play: choosing sustainable products must become the new standard.
